Year-Round Puffs of Pink

Originating from the lush landscapes of Bolivia, the Pink Powder Puff is a low-maintenance evergreen shrub. The Pink Powder Puff brings a touch of exotic allure to any garden or indoor space.

Its bipinnate leaves, boasting 5-10 pairs of leaflets per pinna, unfurl in hues of copper-pink, later maturing into a lustrous dark green and adding depth and dimension to its visual appeal. Come fall and winter, the Pink Powder Puff steals the spotlight with its mesmerizing blooms. Raspberry-like buds burst open to reveal flower heads with a profusion of scarlet stamens.

The vibrant display of color, ranging from watermelon pink to deep red, attracts butterflies and hummingbirds alike. While the Pink Powder Puff flourishes in warm climates its versatility allows for cultivation indoors, provided it is pruned and potted appropriately.

Whether gracing a garden bed or adorning a sunny indoor spot, this botanical wonder promises a spectacle of beauty year-round. Grow your Pink Powder Puff today!

Planting & Care

1. Planting:  Plant in a place that receives 6-8 hours of sunlight a day and has well-draining soil. For optimal growth, you can amend it with peat moss or compost to enhance drainage and the soil’s overall quality.

If growing in a container, place in a well-lit area. Powder Puffs should only be repotted into larger containers once they have outgrown their current ones.

2. Watering:  When spring arrives and into the warmer months, you should begin providing your Pink Powder Puff with consistent weekly waterings.

Reduce the frequency of watering as the temperature drops in the fall. Once mature, powder puff plants are drought-resistant.

If you're wondering if your plant needs water, stick your finger about 2 inches down into the soil. If it's dry in that area, then it's time to water.

3. Fertilizing:  Apply a balanced granular or liquid fertilizer during the growing season when the weather begins to warm up in the spring. In the winter, fertilizer is not necessary.

4. Pruning:  If planting in a container, be sure to prune by trimming back and removing any dead growth.
